Dr Hassan Abbas joins AMI as a Visiting Research Fellow

AMI is delighted to welcome Dr Hassan Abbas, Distinguished Scholar and author, as a Visiting Research Fellow from 8th to 16th January 2026. Dr Abbas is an internationally recognised expert on South Asia, security, and Islamic history, and author of several acclaimed books published by Yale University Press, including The Prophet’s Heir: The Life of Ali ibn Abi Talib (2021) and The Return of the Taliban: Afghanistan After the Americans Left (2023).

During his fellowship, Dr Abbas will be working on his forthcoming book, The Daughter of the Prophet: The Life of Fatima Zahra. He will also engage with AMI faculty, deliver research seminars, and record episodes of the Thinking Islam podcast exploring themes from his published works on the legacy of Imam Ali and the evolving dynamics of the Taliban in contemporary Afghanistan.
