Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Studies (PGDip.)

A 28-week online diploma delivered entirely in English, offering the depth and rigour of traditional ḥawza education without the need to learn Arabic.

Yes — AMI’s programmes are open to international students. Applicants may enrol and study online on the Hawza Programme and the Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Studies (PGDip), whilst the Islam and Self-development Programme is available in-house at AMI only.

  • It depends on the programme:
  • Hawza Programme: You should be able to read basic Arabic.
  • PGDip.: A Bachelors degree in any subject is essential. A background in Islamic studies or humanities is also recommended.
  • Islam & Self-Development: No prior Islamic studies or Arabic knowledge required.

Yes. Most programmes at Al-Mahdi Institute are delivered online, allowing students to study from anywhere in the world. Online learning includes live or recorded lectures, structured coursework, and academic support.

Yes. Students who successfully complete the Hawza Programme by obtaining 450 credits or complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Studies (PGDip.) may become eligible to progress to an MA in Islamic Studies through Al-Mahdi Institute’s academic pathways, in partnership with the University of Birmingham, subject to meeting entry requirements.

Yes. Scholarships are available for the Hawza Programme and MA pathway via AMI’s collaboration with the University of Birmingham.

Students with prior seminary study may apply through the Advanced Entry Pathway to transfer to the Hawza Programme or Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Studies (PGDip.).
