Biography
Dr Ali Rida Rizek is a postdoctoral researcher in Arabic and Islamic Studies whose work examines the social and intellectual history of Islam with a focus on Twelver Shiʿism. His PhD at the University of Göttingen (2021) reconstructed early Imāmī legal reasoning through detailed studies of Ibn Abī ʿAqīl and Ibn al-Junayd, tracing their reception in later jurisprudence. He has taught and held research roles in Beirut, Leiden, Bayreuth, and Göttingen, and publishes on Imāmī ḥadīth, legal history, and classical ethics. During his fellowship at AMI, Dr Rizek participated in the following events:
Fellowship Experience
AMI is a serious research and teaching institution with a very welcoming and friendly team and interesting perspectives for studying Islam in contemporary contexts.
I specifically benefited from presenting some of my research to a knowledgeable audience that is not always available in the West (particularly in what concerns Shi’i studies).
