Dr Haidar Hobballah presented his research at the Early Islamic Jurisprudence and the Question of Origin Conference, convened by the University of Munster in Germany and Namaa centre in Morocco. The conference was held online on 15 December 2023. Dr Hobballah presented his paper titled: Circumstances of the Emergence of Imāmī Jurisprudence in the Second Century Hijrī (ظروف نشأة الفقه الإمامي في القرن الثاني الهجري). In his paper, he discussed the historical circumstances of the emergence of Imāmī jurisprudence during the time Imāms al-Bāqir and al-Ṣādiq, and how Imāmī jurisprudence was gradually separated from the approach of other schools of Islamic jurisprudence. He focused on the formation of a Twelver Shīʿī religious identity distinct from political identity, especially in confrontation with the early schools of jurisprudence, including the Zaidī school. The discussion focused on the reason for the inception of Imāmī jurisprudence, focusing on the role of Imāms al-Bāqir and al-Ṣādiq.
