On Saturday 3rd January 2026, Al-Mahdi Institute hosted its first Yawm‑e‑Ali Qawwali Programme in celebration of the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS). The fully booked event, which also attracted attendees from across the country, offered a spiritually uplifting and socially enriching evening for all who participated.
The programme commenced with congregational prayers, followed by a moving Qur’an recitation by Qari Mohammed Ali. This set the tone for the evening’s reflective atmosphere. Shaykh Arif Abdulhussain then delivered a concise but insightful talk on the life and virtues of Imam Ali (as), highlighting his exemplary character, justice, and devotion.
Following this, Brother Yaseen Sheikh from Islamic Help addressed the audience, offering valuable insights into the charity’s impactful humanitarian work in war‑torn regions. He spoke about ongoing aid efforts in Palestine, Yemen, and Sudan, and how community support is vital in reaching those most in need.
After a refreshment break, guests were treated to a captivating Qawwali performance by the renowned Hussain Brothers Qawwali Group. Their soulful renditions were warmly received and added a celebratory spirit to the evening.
The event concluded with a three‑course dinner, giving attendees the opportunity to connect, reflect, and share in the communal spirit of the occasion.
All proceeds from ticket sales, along with donations collected on the day, were contributed to Islamic Help, totalling £8000, to support relief work in Palestine, Yemen, and Sudan.
The inaugural Yawm‑e‑Ali celebration at AMI proved to be a meaningful occasion, combining spiritual upliftment, charitable giving, and community engagement, a fitting tribute to the legacy of Imam Ali (AS).
