AMI's Shaykh Muhammed Reza Tajri participates in Roundtable Workshop at Edinburgh University

On the weekend of 6th -7th May 2017, AMI's Shaykh Muhammed Reza Tajri participated in a ‘roundtable workshop’, held at Edinburgh University, entitled: The Unthought in Islam: The Shi’a and Shi’ism in the Western Diaspora.

The event, chaired by Edinburgh University’s Professor Andrew Newman, brought together academics, organisational representatives, community leaders and activists, from across UK’s Shia communities.

In addition to the invaluable opportunity to network, the convention allowed for initial discussions to form a common platform for the UK’s Shia community organisations, through which they were able to share ideas and discuss collective solutions for common challenges faced in Britain.

The first phase, of the two-day workshop, began with invited academics sharing some of their research on the above theme.  The studies included research of Shia communities in Europe and the USA, allowing attendees to reflect upon how far the presented findings might resonate with the UK context.

Shaykh Muhammed Reza Tajri  contributed significantly by sharing his findings on his current research in conjunction with Lancaster University, which focuses upon young British Shia university students.

As a result of Shaykh Tajri's integral role in the convention, The Al-Mahdi Institute has further strengthened its ties with the UK's wider Shia community. A successful and engaging workshop for all participants.
